Know how to keep your liver healthy

Liver Info

Keeping Safe

Welcome to the Liver Info. Students' Association (LISA, University of Alberta Chapter) and Canadian Liver Foundation - Northern Alberta chapter website.

The LISA chapter at the U of A provides university students with the opportunity to gain valuable skills that can be used for any future career. Our chapter holds special interest for students interested in professional or graduate programs such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and other graduate programs. For more information, click the "Volunteer your time" button to  the right or see the Events page for upcoming opportunities.

On this website, you'll also find simple and practical information you can use to protect your liver from harm.  Many things we do everyday could put us at risk of liver damage, and knowing what these things are may help you protect yourself.

Your liver works hard 24 hours a day providing your body with energy, fighting off infections and toxins, helping clot the blood, regulating hormones and much, much more. You can’t live without your liver, and keeping it in top shape will keep your body functioning as it should.

The liver is a resilient organ that’s easy to ignore – until something goes wrong. There are over 100 forms of liver disease, and they can be caused by a variety of factors, including viruses, obesity, alcohol, genetics and toxins.

For detailed information on a specific liver disease, or to learn more about our national organization, please visit the national Canadian Liver Foundation website at www.liver.ca.
